Valve opened Steam Frame pre-orders on September 14 at $1,059 for 256GB and $1,299 for 1TB, using a randomized reservation lottery rather than first come, first served. The standalone headset runs SteamOS on a Snapdragon Series 8 Gen 3 and does not require a PC.
Steam’s latest hardware survey marks a first: 16GB graphics cards have overtaken 8GB cards at 25.90 percent to 25.32 percent, and 8-core CPUs have edged past 6-core chips. Both thresholds flipped in the same month, and the timing lands awkwardly against rising GPU prices.
AMD’s new Ryzen 7 7700X3D launched July 16 at $329, bringing 3D V-Cache gaming performance to a budget price point, but reviewers say its pricing next to the 7600X3D and 7800X3D makes it a tough sell.
