One of the most beloved games in Assassin's Creed history is back - rebuilt from the ground up. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launched July 9, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, delivering Edward Kenway's pirate adventure with modernized gameplay, new story content, and visuals that finally do justice to the Caribbean setting fans fell in love with in 2013.

What Is Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced?

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is a full remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, built on the latest version of Ubisoft's Anvil Engine. This is not the 2013 original with a resolution bump - it is a rebuilt experience with ray-traced lighting, micropolygon rendering, and reworked gameplay systems throughout.

The original Black Flag remains a high point in the franchise for many fans, praised for its open-world piracy, naval combat, and the charismatic Edward Kenway. Resynced aims to honor that legacy while bringing the game in line with modern action-adventure expectations.

What's New and What's Changed

Ubisoft made a number of targeted improvements to gameplay in Resynced. The notoriously frustrating tailing missions have been reworked to be more forgiving - a change that will be welcomed by anyone who replayed the original. Stealth has also been expanded, with Edward now able to crouch anywhere in the environment rather than being limited to specific tall grass or hiding spots.

Combat has been overhauled to feel more dynamic, pulling from the improved systems introduced in later Assassin's Creed games while retaining the flair of Edward's dual-cutlass fighting style. Naval combat, the cornerstone of Black Flag's experience, returns with enhanced visuals and physics that make ship-to-ship battles feel more visceral than ever.

Beyond mechanics, Resynced includes new story content expanding on fan-favorite characters. Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet both receive additional storylines exclusive to the remake, adding meaningful new material to a story that fans have been replaying for over a decade.

Platforms and How to Get It

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

The game is not included in Ubisoft+ Classic tier but is available through Ubisoft+ Premium, Ubisoft's higher-tier subscription service. It is not currently available on Xbox Game Pass.

Is It Worth It for Fans of the Original?

For players who loved Black Flag in 2013, Resynced is a compelling case. The core experience - sailing the Caribbean, hunting navy frigates, looting ports, and building the Jackdaw into a warship - is intact and substantially prettier. The quality-of-life improvements to tailing missions and stealth alone address some of the most common criticisms of the original.

New players coming in without nostalgia for the 2013 game are getting one of the better open-world pirate games ever made, now with visuals and controls that match modern standards.
