PlayStation's State of Play on June 2, 2026, opened with an extended Marvel's Wolverine gameplay reveal and closed with the announcement of God of War Laufey. Both of those got their own articles here on NerdBlocks. But between the two bookends, Sony packed more than 60 minutes of reveals, release dates, and trailers that deserve their own breakdown.

Here is everything else that was announced.

Until Dawn 2 - 2027, PS5

Until Dawn 2 is officially happening, developed by Firesprite Games and heading to PlayStation 5 in 2027. This is a standalone sequel - a brand new cast, a brand new setting, and no continuity requirement from the 2015 original.

The setup follows a group of ghost hunters behind the paranormal YouTube channel Dead True, who have been staging all of their content. When they receive professional funding to film an episode on a deserted tropical island called Akishima, what starts as a staged production turns into a genuine fight for survival.

Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Alan Hill, the psychiatrist who framed the original game's structure. Neil Newbon - who won widespread acclaim as Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3 - takes on a starring role. Dacre Montgomery, best known as Billy Hargrove in Stranger Things, joins the cast as well. The Butterfly Effect choice system from the original returns, with a new focus on how social dynamics and influencer culture shape who survives.

No specific release date beyond 2027 has been set. A dedicated State of Play for Until Dawn 2 is expected later this year.

Control Resonant - October 29, PS5

Control Resonant finally has a release date: October 29, 2026, on PS5. Remedy Entertainment's follow-up to 2019's Control arrives in the Halloween window, which feels entirely appropriate for a game set inside a brutalist federal building where the laws of reality no longer apply.

A dedicated State of Play for Control Resonant will air later this summer with a deeper gameplay showcase. What was shown at the State of Play confirmed the game is set in the same Federal Bureau of Control universe as the original, with the same eerie aesthetic and the physics-bending powers that made Control one of the most praised action games of its generation.

Rayman Legends Retold - October 1, PS5

Ubisoft announced Rayman Legends Retold, a 3D reimagining of the acclaimed 2013 platformer, launching October 1 on PS5. The original Rayman Legends was one of the best platformers of the 2010s - a game that punched significantly above its commercial performance in terms of quality. Retold shifts the game into 3D while adding new story content and a new villain.

The announcement is notable for marking Rayman's first major game in years, in a landscape where Ubisoft has largely pivoted away from the character in favor of its bigger franchises. Whether Retold performs well enough to signal a genuine Rayman revival is a story worth watching.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword - September 25, PS5

Capcom confirmed September 25, 2026, as the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a revival of the samurai action series that has been dormant since the mid-2000s. A playable demo is now available for PS5 owners.

Onimusha was one of Capcom's signature franchises in the PlayStation 2 era, blending feudal Japanese settings with supernatural horror and fast-paced action. Way of the Sword is the series' first mainline entry in roughly 20 years, and the gameplay shown suggests Capcom is approaching it with the same seriousness it brought to the Resident Evil and Devil May Cry revivals.

Dune: Awakening - September 22, PS5

Funcom's Dune: Awakening, the open-world survival MMO set in the Dune universe, is coming to PlayStation 5 on September 22, 2026. The game has been in Early Access on PC since earlier this year and arrives on PS5 with its full feature set. Players explore an alternate version of Arrakis where the Fremen civilization, Harkonnen forces, and Atreides loyalists all compete for control of the desert planet.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve - October 2, PS5

Bandai Namco confirmed Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launches October 2, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The aerial combat franchise has maintained a dedicated fanbase through eight entries, and the new game brings updated flight mechanics, a new fictional conflict, and what Bandai Namco describes as the most expansive campaign in the series' history.

Silent Hill: Downfall - Winter 2026

Konami confirmed Silent Hill: Downfall for a Winter 2026 window, developed by a new team using the franchise's established psychological horror framework. This is separate from the Silent Hill 2 remake, which released to critical success in 2024. Konami continues to develop multiple Silent Hill projects simultaneously.

Additional Announcements

The State of Play also included Bancho the Chef (a prequel to Dave the Diver focusing on the cook character Bancho, no release date confirmed), Stuntman: Hollywood (a revival of the PS2-era racing series in which players perform increasingly dangerous movie stunts, 2027 window), Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (confirmed for February 12, 2027 on PS5), and RuneScape: Dragonwilds (confirmed as a day one PlayStation Plus Game Catalog title on PS5).

Conclusion

The State of Play June 2026 was one of the stronger PlayStation showcases in recent years - not just because of God of War Laufey and Marvel's Wolverine, which got the headlines, but because the supporting lineup is genuinely dense. October alone now has Control Resonant, Rayman Legends Retold, and Ace Combat 8 all landing within a five-week window. Fall 2026 is going to be expensive.
