Spider-Noir got the reviews, got the awards attention, and got canceled anyway. Prime Video has ended Nicolas Cage's black-and-white Marvel series after a single eight-episode season, despite it collecting 11 Emmy nominations - more than any other Prime Video show this year. What Prime Video Canceled
Spider-Noir debuted on Prime Video in May 2026 with eight episodes. It was Nicolas Cage's first regular television role, and it adapted the Spider-Man Noir corner of the Marvel comics universe - a 1930s Depression-era take on the character with a considerably darker tone than the mainline version.
The show's headline gimmick was its dual presentation. Prime Video released both a black-and-white version and a full-color version, filmed and graded to work as two distinct viewing experiences rather than a simple filter pass.

Why It Was Canceled Anyway

Awards Did Not Save It
The 11 Emmy nominations are the detail that makes the cancellation sting. It is unusual for a streamer to cut its most-nominated show of the year, and it is a fairly clear signal about where the renewal criteria actually sit.
Nicolas Cage's Response
Cage did not treat the news as a loss. In a statement to Deadline, he said that one season is perfect, having said what he wanted to say with what he described as a dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man.
That framing fits how the show operated. Spider-Noir was built as a specific, contained idea rather than an open-ended franchise engine, and eight episodes is a complete shape for it. Whether Sony and Marvel do anything further with the Noir version of the character is a separate question - the series was produced with Sony Pictures Television, and the character remains available to them.
Spider-Noir is now the kind of show people will recommend in a few years with the caveat that it only ran once, which is not the worst legacy a series can have. The full season is still on Prime Video in both versions, and the black-and-white cut is the one worth starting with. The Emmy ceremony will be a slightly awkward evening for everyone involved.
