Netflix and Studio Trigger are going back to Night City, and this time nobody from the first season is driving. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 arrives on October 20, 2026, with all 10 episodes dropping at once and a completely new cast of characters. CD Projekt Red has been clear that this is not a continuation of David Martinez’s story. Here is what the trailer showed, who the new crew is, and why the standalone structure matters.
Release Date and Format
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres on Netflix on October 20, 2026. Like the first season, all 10 episodes go live simultaneously rather than rolling out weekly.
CD Projekt Red describes it as a “standalone 10-episode story,” which is the key phrase. The first season wrapped its story with a fairly definitive ending, and the studio has not tried to undo that. Co-CEO Michal Nowakowski confirmed the sequel follows “a different crew and new standalone story set in the Night City.”
That makes Edgerunners less a series with seasons and more an anthology with a shared setting. You do not need to have watched the first season to follow this one, though the emotional grammar of the show will be familiar to anyone who did.
The New Crew
The trailer introduces four central characters:
- Weak Kingsley – the protagonist of the new story
- Roman Carax – a young journalist-in-the-making
- D – a Netrunner motivated by revenge
- Talia Yang – a Corpo who is not squeamish about violence
The mix is noticeably different from season one’s merc crew. A journalist and a Corpo executive give the show angles on Night City that the original mostly skipped, since David’s story stayed close to the street level.
Trigger Is Still Trigger
Studio Trigger returns, and the trailer does not suggest any softening of the house style. The footage is fast, loud and bloody, and CD Projekt Red’s own description leans on “raw” and “brutal.” The first season’s reputation rests heavily on how far it was willing to go in its final stretch, and the sequel appears to be aiming at the same register.
Why This Matters for Cyberpunk
Edgerunners did something unusual in 2022: it retroactively saved a game’s reputation. Cyberpunk 2077 got a massive player surge off the back of the anime, and the two have been linked ever since. A second series arriving now, with Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel still years out, keeps the setting in front of an audience during a long gap.
It also lets CD Projekt Red and Trigger explore Night City without being tied to the game’s protagonist or timeline. A new crew every outing is a sustainable format, and it means the show can keep killing characters off, which is arguably its defining move.
Edgerunners 2 is taking the harder path by refusing to lean on the first season’s cast, and that is probably the right call given how completely that story ended. October 20 is a short wait, and the all-at-once release means the whole thing lands in a single weekend. Expect the internet to be unusable for anyone avoiding spoilers for about 72 hours afterward.
