The eXo preservation project has just dropped something incredible for retro gaming fans: eXoWin9x Vol. 1: 1994-1996 - a fully preconfigured collection of 662 Windows 9x games, all set up and ready to launch with a single click.

What Is eXoWin9x?

If you're familiar with the eXoDOS project (which preserves classic DOS games), eXoWin9x is its Windows-era sibling. It covers the Windows 9x era - specifically Windows 95 and Windows 98 - which marked a massive turning point in PC gaming history.

Windows 95 was the first widely adopted version of Windows to run natively in 32-bit, directly interface with hardware (rather than relying on MS-DOS as a middleman), and introduce DirectX - the technology that would go on to power PC gaming for decades. This era produced some of the most beloved and creative titles in gaming history, and a lot of them have been incredibly difficult to run on modern machines.

Think about some of the games we covered in our 20 Quintessential Video Games of the 1990s - titles like RollerCoaster Tycoon, Diablo, Alone in the Dark, and Tomb Raider all lived in this Windows 9x space. Getting those running on a modern PC has historically meant hunting down old discs, wrestling with compatibility settings, and praying. eXoWin9x eliminates all of that.

One Click. 662 Games. No Headaches.

What makes this project genuinely impressive - beyond the sheer volume of games - is how it's set up. The team used DOSBox-X and 86Box emulation alongside Virtual Hard Drives (VHDs) with shared parent OS images. That means instead of packing a full copy of Windows into every single game folder (which would balloon the size to hundreds of extra gigabytes), all 662 games share the same base OS image.

The result? A lean, smartly engineered archive that actually works.

Here's what you get out of the box:

One-click launching - Games are pre-configured in standalone emulators. No setup required.

Completely portable - Everything runs inside virtual machines. Nothing touches your host system.

Online multiplayer - IPX hosting is automated, so you can play supported multiplayer titles against other people who have the pack installed.

Extras galore - Manuals, soundtracks, strategy guides, Universal Hint System files, commercials, and trailers are included for games where they exist.

Foreign titles included - Non-English games are included and tagged with dynamic playlists so you can easily filter them.

Consistent metadata - Genres, series, and other fields are normalized across the entire collection, matching the format of other eXo projects.

The People Behind It

This kind of project doesn't happen without serious dedication. The project lead gives massive credit to two collaborators:

TaraLonger cracked the core technical problem - he developed the clever scripting framework that made it possible to share OS images across games, eliminating the need for hundreds of gigabytes of duplicate Windows data. Without that breakthrough, this pack simply wouldn't exist in its current form.

Dutchmagic spent months testing games and building out the metadata for hundreds of titles in the collection.

This is volunteer-driven preservation work at its finest, and the retro gaming community owes these folks a real debt of gratitude.

What's Coming Next

Vol. 1 covers 1994-1996, but future volumes are already in the works. The project plans to continue into 1997 and beyond, pushing into the early 2000s. There are also plans to eventually expand beyond games into entertainment applications and select productivity software as add-on packs.

In other words: if you grew up with a Windows PC in the late 90s or early 2000s, your nostalgia trip is only getting started. And if the 90s gaming nostalgia bug has already bitten you, this pack is essentially a treasure chest waiting to be opened.

How to Get It

The full release is available as a torrent (262GB) from the official eXo project site at retro-exo.com. A full manual is also available for download there if you want to get the most out of the front end and its features.

You can also support the project through donations (which go toward identifying and acquiring unarchived software) or by picking up physical copies and limited items from their Etsy store.

Why This Matters

Software preservation is a genuinely urgent problem. Old games disappear. Discs rot. Installers stop working. Legal gray areas make official distribution complicated. Projects like eXoWin9x are doing the quiet, unglamorous work of making sure that a pivotal era of gaming history doesn't just vanish.

The Windows 9x years were wild - full of experimentation, weird genres, bold creative risks, and some of the most inventive game design ever made. Hundreds of those titles have been effectively unplayable for years. Now they're one click away.

That's worth celebrating.

Developer: Wingeon Game Studios Platform: PC (Steam) Price: Free-to-Play Status: Closed Beta

A Pixel-Art MMORPG With Big Ambitions

Drakantos draws players into the fantasy world of Eldras, blending high-fantasy battles with an impressive character roster and an ever-evolving set of hero dynamics. It's a bold pitch - and judging by what's been shown so far, it's one that just might land. GameRant

Visuals & Style

The game wears its inspirations openly, citing Chrono Trigger, Stardew Valley, Graveyard Keeper, and Stoneshard as touchstones, with classic high-fantasy worlds like Lord of the Rings feeding into its lore and creature design. The result is a nostalgic top-down pixel art world that feels cozy but not childish - the kind of aesthetic that invites you in and then surprises you with its depth. Drakantos

Gameplay

Movement has been fully reworked from tile-based to free movement, with a mouse-driven action combat system replacing the previous hybrid style — a significant evolution that should make combat feel fluid and responsive. Hero abilities can be modified using orbs and artifacts, allowing players to experience genuinely different playstyles with the same character. Steam CommunitySteam

The PvE side features dynamic dungeons with rotating enemy sets, bosses, traps, and objectives. Missions evolve over time, ensuring each run stays fresh and challenging. For competitive players, the PvP side offers 13 maps across 3 different modes, with a ranked system and regular tournaments — and crucially, stats are equalized in PvP so skill and strategy are what actually matter. SoftonicSteam Community

One of the more intriguing additions is the Hellgate mode: players enter solo or in groups, fight through demonic enemies while collecting loot, but share the instance with other players - creating constant tension between pushing deeper for better rewards or extracting safely. Death means losing everything collected, making every decision carry real weight. Steam Community

Social & Lifestyle Features

Beyond combat, Drakantos leans into the MMO lifestyle. Players can own and decorate housing, trade rare items on a player market, form guilds, participate in global events and minigames, and collect pets and emotes for each hero. A full day-night cycle and timed seasonal events echo the charm of Stardew Valley's festivals. SteamGameRant

Concerns

As a free-to-play title, the monetization model will be the key thing to watch at launch. Some features can be unlocked via in-app purchases, and how aggressively that system is implemented will define whether this feels generous or predatory. The game also faces the age-old challenge of any new MMORPG: building and sustaining a player base large enough to keep the online world feeling alive. Softonic

Verdict (Preview)

Drakantos is shaping up to be a genuinely compelling free-to-play MMORPG - one that respects its genre roots while carving out its own identity through flexible hero building, hybrid PvE/PvP progression, and a charming pixel-art world. If the monetization stays fair and the launch population holds, this could be a very easy recommendation for fans of the genre.

Score (Pending Full Release): 🎮 Promising — Watch This One

What We Know So Far

Mojang dropped the Minecraft Dungeons II announce trailer during Minecraft Live on March 21, 2026, and it's exactly the kind of teaser that leaves you wanting more. The short cinematic shows the fan-favorite hub village in flames and in ruins, setting the stage for a brand new threat descending upon the land. There are glimpses of new environments including what appears to be the Deep Dark as a major featured location and the whole vibe feels darker and higher-stakes than the original.

The official description from Mojang says it all: "A hero's work is never done! Disorder is brewing, and the world stands before a threat unlike any other." Yeah, we're in.

Platforms & Release Window

Minecraft Dungeons II is confirmed for a Fall 2026 release across:

Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo Switch (original)

PlayStation 5

Xbox Series X|S

PC (Steam & Microsoft Store)

Xbox Game Pass

The fact that it's hitting both Switch AND Switch 2 is a nice move — no one gets left out. That said, Switch 2 owners are likely going to see a noticeably sharper experience given the upgraded hardware.

What's New in Dungeons II?

Mojang is billing this as an entirely new action RPG not just a DLC or expansion, but a full sequel. Here's what's been teased so far:

Never-before-seen locations new biomes and dungeons beyond what the original offered

New enemies fresh foes to fight alongside returning favorites

Epic loot because what's a dungeon crawler without the dopamine hits of gear drops

Co-op for up to 4 players solo or squad, your call

Higher-stakes story the world is in crisis, and you're the hero (again)

Mojang and co-developer Double Eleven are keeping details close to the chest for now, but more info is expected in the coming months. You can already wishlist it on the official Minecraft site and sign up for email updates.

NerdBlocks Take

The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in 2020 and was a solid couch co-op game especially if you had kids or friends who weren't into hardcore ARPGs. It was approachable, colorful, and surprisingly fun in short bursts. The problem? It always felt like it had a ceiling. More depth, more build variety, and better endgame content were consistently requested by the community.

A full sequel gives Mojang the chance to actually build on that foundation instead of patching around it. If they deliver on the promise of truly new locations, a beefier story, and more satisfying loot systems, this could be one of the better co-op pickups of late 2026 especially for Switch 2 owners looking to justify that new hardware.

We'll be watching this one closely. Drop your thoughts in the comments are you hyped for Dungeons II, or are you waiting to see more?

Blizzard Reportedly Set to Reveal a New StarCraft Shooter at BlizzCon 2026

January 2026 - Rumors intensify around Blizzard's next big reveal

Blizzard Entertainment is reportedly preparing to unveil a brand-new StarCraft shooter at BlizzCon 2026, marking a dramatic shift from the series' traditional real-time strategy roots. Rumors suggest this could be one of the biggest announcements of the year for the iconic sci-fi franchise.

A Shooter in the StarCraft Universe - What We Know So Far

According to multiple reports from industry outlets, Blizzard is working on a StarCraft shooter project that could be showcased later this year at BlizzCon 2026.

Key points from the latest leaks and news:

The project is now said to be a shooter set in the StarCraft universe, potentially first-person or third-person in perspective.

It's reportedly being developed under the direction of Dan Hay, a former Ubisoft lead known for Far Cry.

The game could be Blizzard's latest attempt to bring StarCraft out of its RTS comfort zone and directly into action-oriented gameplay.

Why This Matters

StarCraft has long been one of Blizzard's most beloved and influential sci-fi franchises - particularly in strategy gaming. Its original launch in 1998 and continued legacy through StarCraft II cemented its status in esports and global gaming culture.

A shooter set in this universe would represent:
✅ A bold genre-bending expansion for the franchise
✅ A potential new entry point for fans unfamiliar with RTS games
✅ The first major StarCraft AAA release headline in years

Fans have waited over a decade since StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void wrapped the main narrative arc.

BlizzCon 2026: What to Expect

BlizzCon 2026 is expected to take place in September 2026, and insiders believe the StarCraft shooter reveal will be one of the show's biggest moments.

Possible highlights at the event might include:

A cinematic or gameplay trailer

Developer interviews or panels

Announcement of platforms and release windows

Details on multiplayer, campaign, or live-service elements

Fan Reactions So Far

The StarCraft shooter rumor has ignited excitement - and mixed opinions - across the community. Some gamers hope for nostalgia-linked content reminiscent of the long-awaited StarCraft: Ghost, while others fear a shift to live service or multiplayer-heavy design.

While nothing is confirmed until Blizzard makes the official announcement, all signs point to a major reveal for the StarCraft franchise at BlizzCon 2026. Whether this shooter becomes a first-person campaign experience or a larger online game remains to be seen - but one thing is clear: StarCraft is poised to return in a big way. Stay tuned as we update this post with official reveals, trailers, and coverage direct from BlizzCon 2026!

January 7, 2026 - Riot Games just dropped the highly anticipated Patch 12.00 update for Valorant, marking the kickoff of Season 2026 with one of the most substantial updates in recent memory. Whether you're climbing the ranks or jumping in with friends, this update brings exciting changes across gameplay, maps, systems, and quality-of-life features.

Replays Are Here!

You asked for it - and Riot delivered!
Replays are now available for Custom matches (both Swiftplay and Standard). Party leaders can enable replay recording before the match starts, letting you relive epic plays or dissect rounds with your squad.

Improved Matchmaking & Competitive Updates

Match quality gets a boost thanks to updates in the hidden MMR system, which aims to give players more consistent, balanced matchups. Plus, Riot is enhancing account security in Europe: multi-factor authentication (MFA) will soon be required for Competitive queue access for shared accounts and high-ranked players.

Agent Adjustments

Riot isn't slowing down when it comes to balancing the roster:

Breach gets stronger flashes and a wider Fault Line to reward coordinated pushes.

Brimstone's tactical map clarity is improved for better vision control.

Harbor's abilities are tuned to enhance impact in combat.

Sage now heals more reliably, especially when allies are partially obscured behind geometry.

Tejo receives tweaks to make his utility more impactful.

Vyse gets slight buffs to improve control and versatility.

These changes reflect Riot's commitment to keeping the meta dynamic and each agent feeling meaningful.

Map Updates - Breeze Rework & Wall Pen Fixes

Arguably the biggest map changes come to:

Breeze - Completely reworked! Angle complexities and rotations have been refined, making the map feel fresh for both attackers and defenders. To help players adapt, Rank Rating (RR) losses on Breeze are reduced by 50% for the first two weeks in Competitive.

Haven & Corrode - Targeted wall penetration updates ensure common abuse spots are dialed back so strategy and gunplay matter more than exploiting geometry.

New Mode: All Random, One Site

New Sidearm - The Bandit

Welcome to Elderfield is a delightfully eerie farming RPG that blends cozy mechanics with unsettling mystery—perfect for fans of Stardew Valley with a taste for the occult.

If you’ve ever wished your farming sim came with a side of cosmic horror, Welcome to Elderfield might be your new obsession. Developed by Chris Cote and published by Kwalee, this upcoming indie gem invites players into a world where tending crops and fishing are just as important as communing with ancient gods and surviving haunted malls.

A Town That’s Anything But Ordinary

Elderfield isn’t your average sleepy village. The townsfolk are strange, the news broadcasts are cryptic, and the shadows seem to move when you’re not looking. You were born here, and now that school’s out, you’re free to explore its secrets—or succumb to them. The game’s premise is refreshingly weird, offering a sandbox of activities that range from wholesome to downright unsettling.

Gameplay: Cozy Meets Creepy

At its core, Welcome to Elderfield is a farming RPG. You can:

Start a farm: Grow crops, raise animals, and process goods.

Cook meals to sustain your adventures.

Fish and mine in randomly generated areas with shifting layouts.

Craft gear to survive increasingly dangerous encounters.

Explore dungeons like the eerie dead mall, complete with bosses and loot.

Interact with townsfolk, each with unique schedules and personalities.

Befriend locals through gifts and tasks—or uncover their darker secrets.

But Elderfield goes further. You can beseech the Old Gods, talk to the dead, and choose when (or if) to sleep, adding layers of psychological tension and player-driven pacing

Demo Details & Future Plans

The alpha demo offers a vertical slice of the full experience, including:

One town area

The farm and ranch

The first dungeon (the mall)

Several smaller explorable zones

The final game promises three times the town size, multiple dungeons, Old God alignment systems, and calendar-based events. Patreon supporters get access to alpha updates and can help shape development through feedback. Welcome to Elderfield

Fragpunk is a fast-paced, action-packed video game that blends tactical combat, futuristic cyberpunk aesthetics, and chaotic multiplayer mechanics. Here's a review based on its core gameplay elements:

Visuals & Art Direction

One of the standout features of Fragpunk is its striking art direction. The game takes place in a neon-drenched, dystopian world, filled with towering skyscrapers, grimy alleyways, and high-tech weaponry. The visual style heavily draws from cyberpunk classics like Blade Runner and Deus Ex, while adding its own sense of chaos with a more vibrant color palette. Characters are designed with exaggerated features and high-tech gear, giving the game a more arcade-like, over-the-top aesthetic.

Pros:

Stunning use of neon colors against dark, gritty backdrops.

Dynamic lighting that emphasizes action and fast movements.

The art direction successfully conveys a futuristic, dystopian world while maintaining a stylized look.

Cons:

Some areas can feel a bit repetitive after prolonged play, especially if you're in the same zone for too long.

Visual clutter in high-action scenes can occasionally make it harder to track enemies or objectives.

Gameplay & Mechanics

At its core, Fragpunk is a multiplayer-first shooter, offering both co-op and competitive modes. The game throws players into fast-paced, chaotic gunfights where precision, strategy, and quick reflexes are crucial. The combat system is smooth, with a variety of weapons ranging from traditional firearms to more experimental, high-tech weaponry, such as plasma rifles and energy blades.

Key Mechanics:

Combat: Fast, fluid, and satisfying. The movement system, which allows for wall-running, double-jumping, and rapid dodging, is key to staying alive.

Customization: Players can customize their characters with different cybernetic upgrades, allowing for unique playstyles (e.g., hacking abilities, shields, or enhanced speed).

Tactical Elements: While the combat is chaotic, there’s a decent level of strategy involved, especially in team-based modes. Coordinating with teammates and making use of the environment (cover, high ground, etc.) can turn the tide of battle.

Pros:

Engaging, high-speed combat with a variety of weapons and abilities.

Plenty of tactical depth, especially in team-based multiplayer modes.

Unique movement mechanics that make the gameplay feel more dynamic than traditional shooters.

Cons:

It can feel overwhelming for newcomers, especially in multiplayer matches with highly skilled players.

The pace of the game, while exhilarating, may leave little room for slower, more deliberate tactical play.

Multiplayer & Replayability

The multiplayer component is where Fragpunk truly shines. With both cooperative and competitive game modes, it offers a variety of ways to play. Team-based modes like capture-the-flag and king-of-the-hill are fun, but the real joy comes from the free-for-all fragfests where chaos reigns supreme.

Pros:

Varied multiplayer modes keep things fresh.

The fast-paced nature encourages constant action, so players never feel bogged down by downtime.

High replay value due to different playstyles and constant updates with new weapons, skins, and abilities.

Tie Breakers are by far the best mechanic this game could of added with a 1v1 until you die then it moved to the next person. It is Amazing!

Cons:

The matchmaking system can sometimes place newer players against seasoned veterans, which can be frustrating.

Some modes feel repetitive after extended play, particularly if you're focusing on the same game type.

Sound Design & Music

The sound design in Fragpunk is immersive and complements the cyberpunk aesthetic. Explosions, gunfire, and character voice lines are all crisp and punchy. The soundtrack, an electronic mix of synthwave and industrial beats, is one of the best parts of the game, adding intensity to the gameplay.

Pros:

The soundtrack perfectly complements the action and tone of the game.

High-quality sound effects that make combat feel impactful.

Cons:

Some sound effects can feel overly repetitive during long sessions.

A lack of variety in environmental soundscapes can make exploration feel less immersive.

Story & Narrative

While Fragpunk doesn’t boast a heavy story, it does offer a framework that establishes its dystopian world. The narrative mainly focuses on a rebellion against a corrupt corporate regime, with players taking on the role of mercenaries trying to survive and thrive in this chaotic world.

Pros:

Solid world-building with lore scattered throughout the environment.

Strong thematic ties to cyberpunk tropes, which will appeal to fans of the genre.

Cons:

The story is relatively thin and secondary to the gameplay, which could be a disappointment for those looking for a more narrative-driven experience.

Limited character development or meaningful plot progression.

Overall Verdict

Fragpunk is a thrilling, visually captivating game that delivers fast-paced action and exciting multiplayer moments. Its strength lies in its high-speed combat, customizable gameplay options, and a unique cyberpunk aesthetic. However, it can be overwhelming for those new to the genre, and its somewhat shallow narrative and occasional lack of visual clarity might detract from the experience for some players.

Score: 8/10 Fragpunk is a solid choice for fans of chaotic, competitive multiplayer shooters, especially those with a love for the cyberpunk genre. While it has its flaws, its high-energy gameplay and slick visuals make it a fun and often exhilarating experience.

Everyone know that i love Warhammer and Darktide's is definitely up there as one of my favorites in the warhammer games, but there was always 1 small thing missing from the game and i think this will fill that gap greatly.

What is Mortis Trials?

Unlocked from Trust Level 13, Mortis Trials is a new activity in Darktide where players can experience something they wouldn’t encounter in normal missions, something with crazy wave compositions and roguelike elements. The fickle nature of these psychic manifestations has ensured that no two trials are alike, and only those who adapt will prevail. By accessing Sefoni’s Reverie on the Mourningstar, players will be transported to the Theatres of Mortification. These are the arenas where players will face the challenges Sefoni has created for them.

At the end of a successfully completed trial, players will return to Sefoni’s Reverie.

Havoc is a game mode with multipliers upon multipliers, and stacked mutators; which has been designed for late-game players to face a challenge. The experience of an activity like Mortis Trials is designed to be chaotic, with easy access for immediate fun. That said, players will face horrors in these theatres, where there is no escape or surrender. Only by standing your ground and fighting with unwavering determination will players emerge with victory.

What will the game play loop look like for Mortis Trials?

Unlike some other experiences in Darktide, Mortis Trials offers more modular pacing rather than non-stop action. Pacing is key, with the difficulty increasing over time in a fun and expandable way.

Each trial consists of 12 waves of heretics to clear. These waves will be broken into three waves of three, and then a final set of three heretical-filled waves straight from Sefoni herself.

When launching Mortis Trials, players will first select the difficulty level they wish to try. From there, the players will assemble in a central theatre.

Before facing the initial wave, players will receive a small buff. The buff they receive is based on the “indulgence” that is chosen before this first wave begins.

Each indulgence has a specialization which will define the type of small buffs player will get during the play through. These include:

Pyrokinetic: This Indulgence Archetype specialises in dealing fire damage, or improving combat effectiveness while attacking burning targets.

Voltaic: This Indulgence Archetype specialises in dealing electric damage, or improving combat effectiveness while attacking electrocuted targets.

Fulminator: This Indulgence Archetype combines elements from both Pyrokinetic and Voltaic disciplines. It applies both electric and fire effects on enemies and can improve combat effectiveness when fighting electrocuted or burning enemies.

Death Dealer: This Indulgence Archetype specialises in close-quarters shooting and melee. Quick swapping between weapons and quicker reloads.

Colossus: This Indulgence Archetype specialises in survivability, focused on close-quarters melee combat.
